Reno DMV checklist — what to bring

One page, everything you need. Print it, tick it off, and don't get sent home for a missing document. Reno office: 305 Galletti Way · appointment-only via Dash Pass.

Still need to book the appointment? Read the Reno DMV appointment guide — how to grab a fast Dash Pass slot and skip the wait.

Register a vehicle / transfer a title

Book as "Title and Registration" in Dash Pass

  • Proof of identity (current driver licence or ID)
  • Proof of your Social Security number (card, recent W-2, or pay stub)
  • TWO proofs of Nevada residency, each dated within the last 60 days (utility bill, bank statement, lease…)
  • Vehicle title — signed over to you, with sale price + odometer filled in
  • Proof of Nevada insurance on the vehicle
  • Smog certificate (most 1968+ gas/diesel vehicles in urban Washoe County)
  • Payment — registration fees + Governmental Services Tax (bring a card)

Driver licence / REAL ID

Book as "Driver License / REAL ID"

  • Proof of identity (passport or birth certificate for a first licence/REAL ID)
  • Proof of your Social Security number
  • TWO proofs of Nevada residency, dated within 60 days
  • Current out-of-state licence, if you're new to Nevada
  • Payment (card recommended)

Road test (driving test)

Book as "Road Test" — NOT "Driver License"

  • A registered, insured, road-legal vehicle for the test
  • Proof of insurance for that vehicle
  • Your learner's permit / current licence

Two tricks that save a wasted trip

  • Can't get a slot? Last-minute Reno appointments release around 8 p.m. on Wednesdays for the rest of the week — refresh Dash Pass then.
  • Just bought a car? You have 30 days to register it, and Nevada plates stay with the seller — the car needs its own new plates.
Here about a car?

If your DMV trip is because you just bought or are selling a car, Nevada Auto Exchange is the free, local way to do the other side of it.
